The South Beach Diet is a diet plan designed by cardiologist Arthur Agatston and dietician Marie Almon as an alternative to low-fat approaches such as the Ornish Diet and the Pritikin Diet advocated by the American Heart Association in the 1980s. Although the original purpose of the diet was to prevent heart disease in Dr. Agatston's own patients, in the early 2000s, word of the diet spread and quickly gained popularity as a means to lose weight .

Can I mix the meals on the South Beach diet?
Q. I wanted to try the south beach diet. I am reading the book and looking at the meals in phase 1. I was wondering If I didn't like one dinner plan, If I could use a different dinner plan from another day? Like, the 4th day for dinner is salmon. If I dont like salmon, can I use the chicken recipe for day 5 instead? If I like one breakfast, can I eat that one everyday or do i have to follow the day by day recipes, or are they all the same in the end? I hope I made sense! =) Thanks.

A. Check out South Beach Diet Quick and Easy Cookbook -- it has some great recipes! (My favorite is the shrimp, snow peas and soy sauce.) Good luck!! (You'll do great!) P.S. You can absolutely mix it up -- just as long as you are not adding food that is off the diet -- like Twinkies. (lol)

A. The first one publish entitled "South Beach Diet". The other books are carb counters and one is recipes. I've been on this diet for 2 months and love it. The first 2 weeks can be a little challenging, but you can do it. Good luck!! I got the paper back version at Walmart for $12.00

A. I have been through it all and know what's it about. The main thing is to stick in there. You can't be an addict to food and never exercise if you want to live a healthy life and keep the weight off. I've worked out, done every diet, and all types of classes. Nothing works, besides dedication and intelligence towards the subject of losing weight. First, depending on how much weight you need to lose, your diet is the first concern. You can't eat 10,000 calories a day and expect the weight to come off, even if you are exercising a lot. Which brings us to the next thing. Duh, Exercising... This is a must especially if you need to a lot of weight. Get at least 30 mins of some good hardcore exercising. Do some cardio, in the long run, it's… [cont.]
