Is the Super Bowl TimTebow ad controversy about opposing inferred religious views? Or just censorship? Or what?
Q. The Tim Tebow Super Bowl ad seems to simply be a positive story. (I really don't see why it merits a $3 million dollar ad but hey, free speech is hard to oppose when there is no apparent harm or danger in telling a simple life story of some athlete.) Why has it provoked so much anger and protest from those who demand it be removed from the airwaves? Is it simply an example of people who want censorship of opposing views or is it related to Tim Tebow's very vocal religious views?
Asked by XenonEmeritus - Sat Jan 30 20:20:22 2010 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It's probably some of both. But other people would just like the Super Bowl ads to avoid political/social/religiou s messages altogether. The ads have always been fun and hip and that's what people like about them. As for CBS' standards, in this economy, they have changed those standards. It's not because CBS is pro-life, that's for sure, but because of the money. Add--I wonder if it were an ad from a pro-choice group if the same people would be complaining or would be applauding CBS for changing the rule?

Do you and your spouse/significant other have opposing political views?
Q. And if so, how does it affect your marriage? My husband and I had different views when we got married and it really didn't come up much, but by the time the election 2004 rolled around, he had seen the light! (completely on his own, I may add) and now we agree for the most part, but I wonder how many couples have opposing views and if it causes problems or not?

I just need several ideas of opposing views of each and it needs to be specific so that I am able to research it. Thanks a million! Your help is appreciated!!

A. John Locke : empiricist (all is ideas) and based his assertions on abundance (enough for all's meager needs) Thomas Hobbes: materialist (all is matter) and was concerned with scarcity (limited resources and man's fighting for such resources) Since it is a intro course, I'd recommend "The Everything Philosophy Book" or the Blackwell Guide to Modern Philosophers to get a more detailed account of both men's views.

Are there examples of anyone winning a law suit based on opposing political views?
Q. If an employee is singled out, and feels that a hostile work environment has been created based on political views would they have a case to take to court? If they had examples of where they were isolated from meetings, feared discussing their views with others who are outwardly spoken because they may not get promoted or possibly pressured to resign, or the office had a picture of a past president of an opposing party, derogatory comments about the other party were daily activities, and emails were sent regularly which bashed the "other" party, does this create a legal issue for the company?

Q. High, how can I create an umbrella organization for other groups and make sure they are kept together for the same purpose and do not split?
Asked by PeguinBackPacker - Sun May 23 23:10:41 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You'd want to have a very specific goal. MLK wanted to repeal segregation. Ganghi wanted the Brittish out of India. John Birch Society wants the US out of the UN. Other leaders who were more vague on their goals, though famous have not been as successful. Peta wants an end to animal cruely, but their actions can't be focused because people fall apart over definition of cruely. Green peace was same way until they focused on Japanese whaling practices. I'd get a very tight definition of a single goal, and approach groups as a speaker trying to form a coalition and have them add your one goal. You get funding, they get purpose. win-win

Is Blocking Users How Neo-Cons Avoid Dealing With Opposing Views?
Q. Just curious. I was recently blocked by a user for nothing more than having different political views. In light of this, has anyone else found that Neo-Cons use blocking when they can't raise a good point in their own defense? Does it go across the board, or is it only people that far on the right who can't defend their views? And why do they post questions that they obviously don't want answered? Seems kind of sad, really.
Asked by Blackacre - Sat Sep 6 20:45:13 2008 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments

A. That IS curious! Because I have experienced the same thing. Only difference - it was the liberals deleting the conservatives! When a liberal claims Jesus would have been democrat, I answered that Jesus was not a Dem OR Republican. I did bash the "Jesus is a Liberal" mentality, but was NOT claiming Jesus was a Conservative either. Still, the answer got removed. And when I objected to those who want to slander Bristol Palin from some vile accusations, my answer got removed. When I asked why my answer would get removed & the non-question (which was just an excuse to spread a rumor ) was NOT removed, my question got removed! And I have been blocked by quite a few liberals as well. How dare I be reasonable! I agree. Very VERY… [cont.]

Discuss the opposing views of Darwin and Kelvin over the age of the Sun. Who was right in the end?
Q. Also, do you believe that life would be possible if energy couldn't be produced from mass and there was no source of nuclear energy in the sun? Why?
Asked by honey p - Wed Feb 3 18:05:35 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Here's Lord Kelvin's idea: The point is that, at the time, nobody knew about nuclear fusion - the mechanism that powers the sun. Based on classical 19th century physics, Kelvin estimated the earth was 20-400 million years old - not long enough for evolution to explain present day diversity. Kelvin argued over the age of the earth with scientists like John Tyndall and T.H. Huxley who supported an even more ancient earth necessary for evolutionary timescales. The argument vanished in the early 20th century with the discovery of radiochemistry. Kelvin was wrong because of something he never knew about - nuclear physics. -do you believe that life would be possible if energy couldn't be produced from mass? When you ask a partisan-biased question, are you really going to consider opposing views?
Q. If you get answers that offer a different perspective do you actually digest and consider it or do you just do a knee-jerk thumbs down? I answered a question from someone who was pro 2nd Amendment but apparently anti- Obama. I am also pro 2nd Amendment and my answer reflected that, however since it did not sufficiently bash Obama, I got a thumbs-down. Why even ask a question if you're not going to thoroughly read the answers before rejecting them?

A. I really do try to. I am always open to different opinions and perspectives. That's how you learn! Politically, I find I incorporate views from both sides in my decision making, and really try to avoid stereotyping people, and thinking purely along one party line or the other.

A. Past presidents have believed they are in office to serve the American people. They also shared a belief in the righteousness of the American; a sense that we had to special moral obligation to behave well. Our current president believes he is in office to serve the economic interests of the people who got him elected. He believes that scientific research and measured analytics are pedantic BS and that blind religious fervor is an acceptable excuse for abject ignorance. The infatigable Mr. Bush is the biggest supporter of our troops... that is of sending our troops out for third and fourth tours of duty even after they have already been wounded in action. Then he talks about patriotism. Frankly he and his policies are a national… [cont.]

A. Even as a four year old, demanding with feet stomping... "Under the creed of modern liberalism the individual citizen is not called to maturity but is instead invited to begin a second childhood. Like the child at play, he is given, or at least promised, ultimate economic, social and political security without having to assume responsibility for himself. The liberal agenda requires him to remain in an artificial environment--the daycare program of the grandiose state--where he need not become an adult, take responsibility for his own welfare, nor cooperate with others to achieve what the state will give him for nothing."

I really don't care as long as they don't force someone who doesn't believe in it to preform the service. Abotion up to a point. 3rd trimester is to late for me. At that point it becomes murder. At least it does to me. Although I just heard someone say they would support it until 30 days after birth. I think that is completely overstepping their bounds.

A. firstly, being a black foreigner... you do have a difference in culture, beliefs(sometimes), and lifestyle to black americans. so you'd be naive to think you'd get along with black americans just because you're black. secondly, not all black americans go around making life harder(than it already is) for black foreigners. we understand how hard it is being black in this country, without having people of your own race making it harder for you. and lastly, discrimination can happen based on anything, religion, sex, age..it's not always about race. not saying it's pretty and justified, but it happens.
